N VPN Speed Test

What is your VPN actually costing you?

Run a baseline without your VPN, connect your VPN, then test again. NextWatch calculates VPN efficiency, speed retained, latency tax, route/IP changes and real-world readiness for gaming, 4K streaming and video calls.

2-STAGE VPN TEST

Measure baseline → connect VPN → compare

The baseline is saved locally in your browser so reconnecting your VPN or refreshing the page does not lose step one.

BaselineNot measured yet

Measurement traffic uses Cloudflare's public speed endpoints. A web page cannot directly inspect your VPN tunnel protocol or prove encryption. IP-route comparisons are based on public network metadata before and after the test.

VPN EFFICIENCY—Speed + latency + stability
SPEED RETAINED—VPN download ÷ baseline
LATENCY TAX—Extra VPN round-trip delay
GAMING—Ping + jitter readiness
4K STREAMING—Throughput + stability
VIDEO CALLS—Upload + latency
VPN PERFORMANCE TAX

Raw speed is only half the story. The useful question is what percentage your VPN keeps.

A fast internet plan can still feel poor through a congested or distant VPN server. NextWatch compares the same connection with the VPN off and on so the result is expressed as retained speed, added latency and real-world readiness.

VPN speed test

The live test measures sustained download and upload performance, idle latency, jitter and latency while the connection is busy. The comparison then calculates speed retained and performance loss instead of showing an isolated Mbps number.

VPN IP checker + “what's my IP”

NextWatch records public network metadata for each stage. If your public IP changes after you connect the VPN, the route-change result reflects that without claiming access to your device's private network details.

Best VPN location for gaming

Run the second stage against more than one VPN server location. For competitive gaming, prefer the route that keeps ping and jitter low rather than the server with the highest download speed alone.

Accuracy notes

What a browser VPN test can — and cannot — know

Protocol detection is manual by design

A normal web page cannot reliably inspect whether your operating system is tunneling through WireGuard, OpenVPN or IKEv2. Select the protocol if you know it; NextWatch does not invent one.

Public IP change is a route signal

A changed public IP strongly suggests the visible internet route changed, but this page does not inspect tunnel encryption. Use your VPN client's own status screen for tunnel-level security details.

Browser “packet loss” claims can be misleading

HTTP failures are not the same as low-level packet loss. This test therefore focuses on browser-measurable throughput, ping, jitter and loaded latency instead of presenting a fake packet-loss percentage.
